“Komisen affiliate masuk, tapi aku rasa aku tak set tinggi mana pun.”
Shopee affiliate commission is one of those cost lines that arrives without a notification. You set a rate in Seller Centre months ago, forget about it, and then a settlement shows a commission you do not remember agreeing to. Usually the reason is one word: indirect. Since 24 May 2026, Shopee charges affiliate commission on indirect social media orders at 50 per cent of the rate you set, up from 30 per cent. Here is how the line actually works, so you can price with the real number before campaign season pushes your volume up.
How Shopee affiliate commission is charged
Shopee runs this through the Affiliate Marketing Solution, or AMS. Two kinds of order carry a commission:
- Direct orders. An affiliate promotes your shop or your product’s AMS link in an external channel, and the buyer orders from you.
- Indirect orders. An affiliate promotes another shop’s or another product’s AMS link, the buyer keeps browsing, and the order lands in your shop instead.
External channels are the traffic sources outside the Shopee app: social media such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, plus content publisher and price comparison sites.
For direct orders you pay the commission rate you configured for that product in Seller Centre. For indirect orders you pay a share of that same rate. That share is what moved this year.
What changed on 24 May 2026
Shopee’s AMS commission rules page, seller education article 26669, is dated 30 April 2026 and states the change in one line: effective 24 May 2026, AMS commissions for indirect social media orders are adjusted to 50 per cent of your existing rate, previously 30 per cent.
The reason given is investment. Shopee says AMS sellers recorded 30 per cent higher sales than non participants since commission fees on indirect orders began, and points to commission matching, affiliate vouchers and rebate crediting as what the extra money pays for.
Treat that as the platform’s own framing. The arithmetic on your settlement is not in dispute.
What an indirect order costs, with the official example
Shopee publishes the formula itself, effective 24 May 2026:
Commission = Purchase value x Commission rate x 50% x (1 + SST%)
Its worked example: a RM2,000 indirect order with an AMS rate of 8 per cent. Before the change, 2,000 x 8% x 30% x 1.08 came to RM51.84. Under the new rule, 2,000 x 8% x 50% x 1.08 comes to RM86.40.
Set out by rate, the indirect share of your own rate now looks like this:
| Rate you set | Indirect before 24 May 2026 | Indirect now |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | 1.5% | 2.5% |
| 8% | 2.4% | 4.0% |
| 10% | 3.0% | 5.0% |
Those are percentages of the purchase value, before SST.
The two conditions that limit the charge
Two rules matter more than the percentage, and both work in your favour if you know them.
First, the commission is charged only when an order is successfully completed. Orders that never finish do not carry it.
Second, attribution is narrow. Only the first order a buyer places within 7 days of clicking an affiliate partner’s link is charged. Any later order from the same buyer inside that 7 day window is not charged.
Where to see your own indirect share
Shopee keeps the split in Seller Centre, under Affiliate Marketing Solution, in the Conversion Report. A rate card from any blog, including this one, cannot tell you what share of your orders arrive indirectly. That depends on your category, your rate and how your buyers move.
Open it before you decide your rate is fine.
Putting it into your cost per order
Affiliate commission is a marketing cost, and like every marketing cost it has to sit inside the margin, not on top of it.
- Read your indirect share from the Conversion Report.
- Apply the new share to each rate you have set, so you know the real percentage you are paying on indirect orders.
- Add it to the rest of the lines, commission, transaction fee, programme fee, the flat per order charge, and shipping support if you use it, SSFS sits at RM0.28 per order, RM0.18 for Preferred sellers.
- Re-check before every campaign peak, because affiliate volume rises when buyers are shopping, and so does this line.
Our free Fee & Profit Calculator covers Shopee, TikTok Shop and Lazada with the full line list, so you can see the whole cost of an order rather than one line at a time.
Why the returns side matters more than the rate
A commission you can see is manageable. The exposure sits next to it, in orders that complete, get paid, and then come back as a return or a dispute.
For a thin margin seller, one returned order can wipe out the profit of several good ones, and the sellers who recover those orders are the ones who can show what left the shop. That is a record, not an argument. What is packing verification explains how a per order record is built, proof of shipment covers what to collect at handover, and if you want to screen a new buyer before you ship, Buyer Check is free to use.
Know your affiliate cost, keep the fee lines honest, and keep proof for the orders you ship. Then a peak season grows your margin instead of hiding it.
Packory records packing video for every order, hands free, order linked and verifiable, so a claim becomes a question of facts rather than a story. Free to start: start free
